Red Plateau Organic Produce began 20 years or so ago on the volcanic plateau behind between Wingham and Comboyne. Surrounded by the Killabakh National Park, the isolation lent itself to the organic status sought by its owners, whilst the red soil provided an ideal growing environment. Starting as a market garden, avocados soon took over. The business now supplies organic avocados to multiple states and supermarkets around the country. But time brings change, and with the children now grown, two sons – Joey and Carl – have taken over the farming of the avocados, spreading the business out to include another organic farm near Comboyne, at Innes View. Their mother Sandra continues to handle the distribution of the produce.
