Parched Earth & Granny Mels: Mel and Dan
Mel and Dan moved to the region from Sydney, planning for a quieter life. But the success of Mel’s sauces (Granny Mels) and pastas (Parched Earth) has seen them “busier than ever”. With flavours across the ranges inspired by what’s growing in the garden at the time of harvest and cooking, they are multi-skilling as gardeners, chefs, and marketers, swapping a small patch in the city for a much larger patch in the country. They haven’t looked back, making spinach pasta, pumpkin fettucine, beetroot and tarragon fettucine, kale and cracked pepper pappardelle, wholemeal spelt pappardelle, mango and chilli sauce, roasted red capsicum sauce, and more. Meanwhile Dan is adding another string to his handy bow, recently graduating as an architect. One of his first jobs? Design and build Mel the perfect kitchen.
